Cindy Furey started Comprehensive Therapy Services, Inc. (CTS) in 1997 with a dream and vision for a one-stop shop for comprehensive physical and mental well-being for patients. After graduating from Northwestern University Physical Therapy in 1990, Cindy relocated to San Diego to pursue her PT passion and in 1997 Comprehensive Therapy Services was born!

During the past 16 years, Cindy's courage, leadership and dedication to her patients & employees and ethical business practices have paved the way for success. CTS is now widely considered one of the premier physical therapy clinics in the Southwestern United States for Women's Health and Pelvic Medicine. Through education in preventative strategies and a proactive, manual treatment approach, Cindy's goals are to minimize discomfort, expedite recovery and restore and enhance function with each of her patients.

One of Cindy's priorities for her staff is continual professional education to keep abreast of the latest research and techniques. She provides the means and time for her staff to take courses to grow in their respective areas and to share this information staff wide on a regular basis.

Cindy's own ongoing education in the areas of orthopedics, women's health, and pelvic medicine is extensive and she loves to learn and to share her knowledge with patients, other practitioners, doctors and friends. Here in San Diego, she works as guest professor at the University of St. Augustine Physical Therapy Program, partners in national research projects, educates the fellows in physical therapy options for clients, and collaborates with UCSD Pelvic Medicine and the Naval Medical Center San Diego-Balboa on a regular basis. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Women's Health and Private Practice Section, International Pelvic Pain Society, National Vulvodynia Association, Interstitial Cystitis Association and Vulvar Pain Foundation.

She and her husband are the proud parents of a 7 year-old daughter. She manages to keep up with her daughter and stay healthy with running, Yoga, Pilates and taking a deep breath as often as she can.

April Douglas, DPT, MTC    E-mail

April graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, CA, with an emphasis in Manual Therapy treatments in the orthopedic setting. April also works at the University of St. Augustine as Adjunct Faculty, assisting with teaching students in their Doctorate program and continuing education courses. She also consults for a Physical Therapy software program for clinical perspective and conducting research.

April has completed her Manual Therapy Certification (MTC), which includes Manual Therapy techniques for the Lumbar, Thoracic and Cervical Spine, Pelvis and Hip, Upper and Lower Extremities, Cranium and Soft Tissue Manipulation. She likes to take a biomechanical stand point with her patients, getting them back to doing what they want to do. April has a rich background in competitive sports including cross-country running, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and soccer.

Crystal Hazelton, PT, OCS    E-mail

Crystal joined the Comprehensive Therapy Services Family in 2011. She received her BA in Psychology and then her Master of Physical Therapy degree from the university of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She became a board certified orthopedic specialist (OCS) in 2013.

While in physical therapy school, she developed an affinity for empowering pregnant women and then decided to delve further into pelvic floor rehabilitation through specialty classes in Women's Health while training under a urogynecologist. As a Mom herself, she is particularly passionate about helping pre and post-natal women live a pain and dysfunction free life. She believes the concepts of orthopedics, including manual therapy and exercise prescription, work nicely with healing the whole person who presents with pelvic dysfunction.

She currently treats athletes of all levels with orthopedic injuries, women and men with pelvic dysfunction (pain and incontinence), as well as pre and post-natal care. Crystal spends her free time hiking and SUPing with her kids. She believes in helping each person as an individual to move forward so they can participate fully in their life.

Elizabeth Leeds, PT, DPT    E-mail

Elizabeth Leeds received her Masters in Physical Therapy in 1998 and her clinical doctorate in 2009 from Boston University. Elizabeth's passion in fitness and wellness coupled with her own journey with a neuro-autoimmune issue and motherhood has confirmed her belief in looking at the individual as a whole and honoring his/her musculoskeletal and environmental factors.

Elizabeth's treatment techniques fuses her background in manual therapy, functional biomechanics, mat and reformer pilates, personal training, and holistic life coaching. She recognizes the stress of life and inadequate nutrition can perpetuate and accelerate any underlying musculoskeletal issue. Her hope is to empower the individual with the education and realistic tools to manage the musculoskeletal issues, in order to enhance the client's confidence, hope and vitality.

Elizabeth's free time is spent teaching in the fitness industry for GRAVITY and educating on prenatal and post partum issues, as well as, care for the pelvic floor.

Jill Menefee, PT    E-mail

Jill joined the Comprehensive Therapy Services family in 2010 and is very excited to be a part of the team approach that CTS offers. She received her Physical Therapy degree in 1987 from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences and began her career in the field of Pediatrics in various settings such as home health care, inpatient pediatric facilities, and school/child development centers. After several years of being a full-time Mom, she renewed her career in the field of Women's Health and Pediatric/Teen bowel and bladder dysfunction. Jill is passionate about helping women, children, and teens learn to take control of their bodies and make the changes necessary to regain control of their lives.

Katherine Dahl, PT, MPT, CD (DONA)    E-mail

Katherine has been part of the pelvic physical therapy team at CTS since 2010. She has taken a wide variety of continuing education courses on pelvic floor treatment for women, men, and children, on prenatal and postpartum physical therapy, and on visceral manipulation. She has also been studying craniosacral therapy, and is excited about incorporating more of this holistic treatment paradigm into her practice. Katherine has attended over 25 births as a birth doula, which has enhanced her understanding of musculoskeletal and pelvic floor issues related to childbirth. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, APTA’s Section on Women’s Health, DONA International, and the Coalition to Improve Maternity Services. She is passionate about empowering patients through education on how their body systems are designed to work.

Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband and four awesome daughters, and is addicted to reading. Her favorite muscle is the obturator internus.

Kim Zevin, DPT    E-mail

Kim Zevin received both her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. She joined the CTS Family in 2007 and focused primarily on Women's and Men's Pelvic Health. Over her years of practice, training, and classes in pelvic dysfunction, Kim went on to take extensive training in Visceral Manipulation, Craniosacral Therapy, Neural manipulation, and Listening Techniques. These Osteopathic approaches have molded her into a therapist who has the ability to feel what most therapists are not trained to feel and to therefore treat what the body is showing her to treat. She believes in the body's innate ability to heal and her role is to support and to help facilitate healing.

In Kim's free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, beach volleyball, yoga and traveling to far distant places. She loves to learn and is always taking classes to expand her mind and her abilities.

Kira Shurtz, DPT    E-mail

Kira joined CTS in 2013. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a B.S. in Biology and then attended The University of Pittsburgh to obtain her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree in 2013. Since joining CTS she has focused her practice in pelvic floor physical therapy, pre and post natal care, general orthopedics and dance rehabilitation. She was classically trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and had the opportunity to teach for them throughout high school and the summers during her undergraduate education. She also has been trained in tap, clogging, and various folk styles during her time at Brigham Young University. She works with Broadway touring performers as they come to San Diego. Some of the productions have included Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Joseph and the Technicolored Dream Coat, Kinky Boots, Motown the Musical, and Once. Her passion lays in helping her patients return to the activities they love most. She believes in giving her patients the tools they need to heal, grow, and increase their fitness levels.

She is deeply passionate about fitness and can be found teaching group fitness classes when she is not at CTS. Since moving to California she has also found a new love of hiking and rock climbing.

Mandy Johnston, PTA    E-mail

Mandy joined Comprehensive Therapy Services in 2010 as a Physical Therapist Assistant and Pilates Instructor. She combines her love of exercise and Pilates training with her manual therapy skills to create fun and successful treatments. Throughout her years of practice, Mandy has taken many different continuing education courses. She strives to stay up to date on current treatment techniques in order to provide the best treatment possible for patients.

Mandy expanded the Pilates program at CTS to include small group apparatus and MS group classes. She has seen the many benefits proper alignment and mobility have for patients and strives to empower others to take charge of their health.

In her spare time Mandy enjoys spending time with her family, running, cooking and doing anything outdoors.

Maureen Mason, MS PT, WCS, CCI    E-mail

Maureen has been with CTS since 2005 and has been happy to help with the clinic expansion from 4 PT’s to over 8 PT’s. She has a Masters in Physical Therapy from Boston University and a 2014 Board Certification as a Women's Health Specialist (WCS). She is passionate about teaching and has a Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCI) certificate via the American Physical Therapy Association for Physical Therapy student–intern training. Her primary work focus is specialty Physical Therapy, Pelvic/Pain Rehabilitation and Orthopedics. Her work with complex patients with pelvic girdle pain and post partum low back pain sparked her interest in pelvic rehabilitation. She has specialized in pelvic care for men and women for the past 18 years of practice and she finds it exciting that the PT profession is developing more research and evidence for practice standards.

Maureen is currently writing case reports on women's health issues and abdominal muscles changes with pregnancy. She is also exploring research for pelvic organ prolapse. She is certified by SDSU in research with human participants for participation in future research studies.

Maureen strives to optimize function and performance for all clients treated and to offer expertise in student, medical and community education. She is originally from upstate NY but counts San Diego as her home. She and her husband are proud of their two daughters who are fit and enjoying their careers after college.

Her hobbies include chicken wrangling, dog walking, organic gardening, cooking and yoga. She is on a certification track with medical yoga through the Professional Yoga Therapy organization (Professional yogatherapy.org) and plans to explore research with yoga for intervention in pelvic rehabilitation.

Maureen is applying Medical Yoga in her PT practice, as clients need. This process involves recognition of mind body spirit, meditation, breath (pranayama) practice, as well as postures (Asanas) and movement patterns as required to meet PT goals.

Toni Flynn, DPT    E-mail

Toni joined the Comprehensive Therapy Services team in 2015. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA in 2006 and completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, CA in 2011. Toni has a rich background in the outpatient orthopedic setting, treating individuals with a myriad of diagnoses including: sports and overuse injuries, post-op rehabilitation, balance disorders, and specializes in the treatment of pelvic health. She completed the CAPP Level I certification in pelvic physical therapy in 2014 through the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Women’s Health. Toni strives to address the functional limitations of every individual through education, wellness and treatment of the whole body in order to allow the person to achieve full and pain free mobility.

Toni is an avid runner, hiker, reader, and spends much of her free time outdoors on the beach or trails with her husband and dog.

Elizabeth DeLozier, SPT    E-mail

Elizabeth received her BS in physical anthropology and her BA in Spanish literature from the University of Arizona. During college, a dance injury brought her to a physical therapist and she knew right away it was the career for her. Elizabeth graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy from San Diego State in 2016. During graduate school, she was active in the American Physical Therapy Association's Section on Women's Health, acted as the Southwest Region Student Liaison, and presented her research group's article, 'The Role of Obturator Internus Muscle in Pelvic Floor Function", which was published in the APTA Journal of Women's Health.

Elizabeth holds certifications in yoga, Pilates, and barre, and is passionate about empowering men and women to take control of their health through exercise and mind-body strategies. She enjoys working with patients with orthopedic as well as pelvic floor muscle disorders and applying manual, exercise, and functional training techniques to help them return to the activities they love as quickly as possible.

In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys dancing, yoga, cooking, eating, reading, and spending time outdoors in beautiful San Diego.

Angela Yvonne is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist, specializing in women’s health and hormone balance. Her expertise is in fertility enhancement, prenatal care, and weight management.

Angela Yvonne is licensed by the California Board of Acupuncture, and Nationally Certified in Massage and Body Work (NCBTMB). She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in child development at Point Loma Nazarene University and then went on to complete her Master’s degree in Acupuncture at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Angela continues her studies, and will be completing her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine this summer.

Angela became interested in alternative medicine while working as an adoption social worker at San Diego County. There, she met several couples that struggled with infertility and was delighted to discover that Asian Medicine held solutions for these families. Angela has treated a number of men and women successfully for a variety of fertility issues, undergoing both natural and assisted fertility treatment. With these successes, Angela has had the opportunity to treat countless women throughout their pregnancy and post partum period. She understands that hormone balance is a central part of feeling vibrant and healthy, and aims to bring the body into balance using gentle, and effective methods. Angela has completed extracurricular training in detoxification, weight loss, and nutritional counseling and incorporates dietary therapy into all of her acupuncture treatments.

As a women’s health specialist, Angela also has experience treating PMS and menopause, digestive problems, anxiety and depression and all types of pain related to chronic and acute injury. She has worked in a number of integrative settings providing complementary treatments to patients receiving both western and alternative medical care and believes that the best results are achieved when using an integrated approach.

Elizabeth Kominami, L.Ac., MSTOM    E-mail

Elizabeth Kominami is a Board Certified Herbalist and Acupuncturist in the State of California, and a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine through the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.)

Drawing on the time-honored practice of traditional Chinese Medicine, modern functional medicine, and nutrition based healing, Elizabeth offers an integrative approach to healthcare. At the core of this approach is the philosophy that optimal health is best achieved by using supportive measures, which encourage the body to heal itself.

Her interest in Eastern medicine began while doing volunteer work at Greenwich Hospital's Center for Integrative Medicine in her hometown of Greenwich, CT. Here, she was able to see firsthand the far-reaching benefits of an integrative health model in which non-invasive interventions, using both Western and Eastern medicine, was the focus of care.

Elizabeth went on to earn a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. As part of her clinical hours, Elizabeth completed internships with affiliate hospitals including the VA Hospital in New York City, UCSD’s Owen’s Clinic, and Rady’s Children's Hospital of San Diego. She also completed a training program at Chengdu University in the People’s Republic of China where she studied within the dermatology and gastroenterology departments.

Elizabeth treats a broad range of conditions, with a special interest in digestive disorders and women’s health, as well as stress and pain management.

Jim Cahill, BCB    E-mail

Jim developed Mindfulness-Based Biofeedback Therapy™ in response to the growing epidemic of chronic pain and stress-related disorders. MBBT blends Western biofeedback and applied psychophysiology with the most validated methods of Eastern meditation from the Indo-Tibetan traditions. Guided by these "best of" practices from the world's healing traditions, Jim develops customized trainings in self-regulation for individuals dealing with a wide array of conditions.

A former brain researcher at Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, Jim has edited hundreds of biomedical journal articles and invented several patented biomedical devices. He studied cross-cultural approaches to medicine and taught medical anthropology courses at UCSD Medical School. He has been featured on TV and radio broadcasts on stress and pain, and was interviewed by Johns Hopkins' chief of pain about his methods. Oxford University Press recently asked Jim to present his views in a chapter on integrative medicine approaches to stress and pain. Jim also participated in the Shamatha Project, the most scientifically rigorous study of meditation ever performed, which was launched at the behest of the Dalai Lama.

Kelsey fell in love with Pilates while working as a Physical Therapy aide at CTS teaching the exercises to various clients. She then completed her Pilates training through STOTT Pilates. Kelsey was a competitive gymnast for 8 years and also swam and played water polo. Kelsey earner her Bachelors degree in Foods and Nutrition and is currently completing her Masters in Acupuncture and Massage Therapy. In her spare time, Kelsey enjoys surfing, hanging out at the beach and enjoying the outdoors.

Kristin has been with CTS since August of 2004 and is currently the Office Manager and teaches Pilates. She graduated from SDSU in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. In 2007, she became a certified personal trainer through the NSCA. She received a Pilates certification in 2008 through the Balanced Body University and recently trained on the CoreAlign.

She loves spending time with her family, especially her daughter, Kassidy, born on Halloween of 2012. She also enjoys Yoga and hiking.

Lillian Prantil    E-mail

A native San Diegan, Lilly attended Point Loma High and the University of San Diego. She is active in La Jolla Playhouse and has served on the board. Lilly is also a "CASA", Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children. After raising five children as a single mother, Lilly re-entered the work force specializing in medical front desk office procedures, which included insurance and billing. The rules and regulations of insurance and billing are ever changing and require close vigilance. Lilly is a patient advocate and believes patients should be given the highest form of quality care, integrity and dedication from the Physical Therapists that attend to their needs and the aides that assist them.

Amy has been with CTS since January 2013 and is one of our office assistants. She graduated from the University of Utah in 2010 with a Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training. She has been a Certified Athletic Trainer through the BOC since 2010 and CPR and AED certified since 2008. She moved to San Diego from Utah with her husband, Robbie, so he could pursue a PhD at UCSD.

She is also an independent Team Beachbody Coach and enjoys helping others meet their health and fitness needs through exercises and nutrition.

In her free time, Amy enjoys swimming, cooking, going to the beach and spending time with her husband Robbie and dog Jasper.

Justin Montgomery, PT Aide, Personal Trainer

Justin is a Physial Therapy Aide at Comprehensive Therapy Services. He is currently finishing his Bachelor's in Kinesiology at San Diego State University with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy and hopes to continue to graduate school for his DPT. After serving in the Navy for six years, he decided to pursue a career in fitness and health with aspirations of becoming a Physical Therapist. Prior to working with CTS, he spent several years as a CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting coach. Additionally, he holds a NESTA Proessional Fitness Trainer certification and is currently an acting personal trainer.

When he isn't working, Justin enjoys traveling, cooking, and anything that challenges him physically, including participating in sports, hiking and surfing.
