Bedwetting can affect a child’s self-esteem and social life. Bedwetting, or “nocturnal enuresis”, may be beyond the preconceived notion that these children are just lazy, are deep sleepers, or that it stems from a food allergy. Children should always get checked by a physician to make sure there is no infection or serious condition. Once they are cleared from an M.D., physical therapy may help to retrain their pelvic floor muscles. These muscles need to function correctly in order to prevent wetting during sleep. Physical therapy can help properly train these muscles and help correct the problem.
