Urinary dysfunction is a common occurrence as we age and the incidence can become even more prevalent after any surgery, but primarily after prostate surgery due to the proximity of the urethra to the prostate. Common symptoms are:
- Urinary Frequency
- Urinary Hesitancy
- Painful Urination
- Urinary Incontinence
- Incomplete Bladder emptying
- Dribbling after urination
These symptoms are usually related to muscle spasms and/or weakness in the pelvic floor muscles, lack of coordination in these muscles and/or poor blood flow. Physical therapy can be especially beneficial to help restore the normal function of these muscles to alleviate these symptoms through education, soft tissue release, muscle re-education and exercise.
