I was treated for interstitial cystitis and pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) at Comprehensive Therapy Services for several months in 2012. My experience at CTS was wonderful. I worked primarily with Natasha Ratajczak as my physical therapist, but also received assistance from several others on the CTS staff. When I began my physical therapy, my pain levels were very high: on an average day, my pain level was a 6/10, but I often had "bad" days that yielded a pain level of 8/10 or more. I was taking prescription painkillers as well as several other medications to manage the condition.
Natasha and the staff at CTS treated me with courtesy, compassion, and respect. In addition to performing physical therapy work, Natasha also taught me ways to manage my pain and reduce my symptoms. These included everything from yoga positions to diet modifications to ways to make sex more comfortable for my partner and I. Since I actually have a background in biology and women's health, I appreciated that I never felt spoken down to; it always felt like everyone was working with me, rather than treating me like a patient who needed to be told what to do. It was very empowering!
Today, I am no longer taking prescription painkillers and my pain levels are significantly reduced. I feel that I owe a lot of this to the treatment I received from Natasha and the rest of the staff at CTS. I've found that not may people know that physical therapy exists for pelvic pain and other women's health issues—but I hope the word spreads, because it literally changed my life. I would encourage anyone experiencing interstitial cystitis, PFD, or any related condition to see if physical therapy at Comprehensive Therapy Services could be beneficial for them. - Gabi G.
I wanted to take time before I move to Japan to thank my two therapists that are currently worked very hard to get me ready for a two year tour in Japan for our military. I have a representational role for our military which involves a lot of travel in the Asian Pacific region. To be able to stand for hours at receptions and run all over these different countries with my counterpart would have been impossible if not for therapy to build my pelvic floor. I want to avoid surgery and my doctor told me I would have great success coming to CTS.
I have been coming three times a week and my therapists have had a huge time constraint as I started treatment on July 29,2013 and will end treatment on September 4, 2013. I started at ground zero and got up to speed quickly as they work to get in as many sessions possible. Kira and Mandy are gentle, kind and understanding. They are so positive and committed to make me better. I walk out of each session with a feeling of success and confidence. I am a compliant patient and by working on these exercises at home, success is evident.
Kira and Mandy are exceptional people. They are always professional, make me laugh a lot and make coming to CTS fun. Their expertise and the ability to teach is exemplary. They are excellent in conveying an idea, having me visualize it and translating it into a physical action.
Alexa, Jillie, and Brittany were very helpful in working with me on the exercises on the floor and the pilates benches. They were always kind, and attentive and helpful to correct movements. I appreciated them every visit.
Kira and Mandy changed my life. To make change in one's life it must be a lifetime commitment. These women have given me the tools for that life change. I am so grateful for them and will continue with these exercise everyday of my life. To be free of surgery is a tremendous gift. I thank them for this gift.
I have recommended CTS to three of my friends and have contacted my doctor to let her know of my success. I will be back periodically for additional refresher treatment when I am back in the states.
Blessings to all who walk through the doors at CTS. Your journey to health will start the moment you step up to the desk.
Very Respectfully -K.T.
I have been meaning to write this review for awhile now but I couldn't quite figure out how to put into words just how wonderful, no amazing, CTS is. I don't think I have it figured out yet but I am going to give it a try because people need to know that this place is unparalleled. I would give it an infinite number of stars if I could. If you need physical therapy, you need to go to CTS.
My daughter had been a patient at CTS and she pushed me to go there even though I could have gone to Scripps Clinic (more on them later) since that was my in-network HMO P.T. place. A little history about why I needed PT ... I had 2 terrible accidental falls in a very short time, one shattering my elbow, the other my femur. Having had a knee replacement 6 years earlier, and not having good quality rehab and suffering ever since for it, I knew my rehab. this time was make it or break it.
By the time I went for my initial appointment at CTS I was two months out from having a rod placed in my femur. I was not going to be able to put weight on my leg for roughly 5 months. Other therapists had told me there was nothing I could do to start my rehab until I could bear weight. I knew this was wrong. At my first appointment, with Cindy Furey, she proved how wrong the other therapists had been. She gave me loads of exercises to do on my own. She spent so much time working on me, stretching me out, doing exercises to help me build my strength, getting me on a Pilates Reformer so I could safely work on my range of motion and strength, that I was happily exhausted by the time I left. Perhaps even better than the physical benefits of my appointments with Cindy, is the emotional lift and confidence I get every time I am at CTS. Where other therapists told me I might not walk again, Cindy tells me that WE have a lot of hard work to do (the key is the we . . . I feel like we are a team getting me back to where I want to be) but that we will make it. She is one of the most passionate, energetic, motivating, inspiring people I have met and it couldn't be at a more important time in my life. I feel so lucky (definitely not for the broken bones) to have found my way to CTS.
Comparing an appointment at CTS is like comparing a 7 day cruise to a 2 hour staycation or an all you can eat smorgasbord at your favorite restaurant to a shopping the Dollar Menu at McDonalds with only a dollar in hand. Most other PT clinics allot a maximum of 15 minutes for a PT to see each patient, this 15 minutes often turns to less than 10 in reality. What can be accomplished to rehab challenging injuries in 10 minutes? How about in 7? At CTS you will likely work with your PT for a good 30 minutes of hands-on work. I am amazed at the great work Cindy does with her hands to help stretch out my very tight muscles. I have watched the other therapists too and they all do lots of hands-on work with each patient. After seeing Cindy, I do more exercises with one of the PT aides. They are all so nice and encouraging. They are very attentive to me and my needs. I think that they are better than the therapists I have seen at other clinics in lots of ways. Following these exercises comes a little treat, 15 or 20 minutes lying on a table with the most wonderful heat and electric stimulation to make feel warm and relaxed.
I know this review is beyond lengthy but I don't know how to make it shorter and do it justice. The bottom line is that people, like me, go to a PT clinic because they need help healing their bodies. They need to be made well. They need to be empowered to do these things. CTS has done all of this for me. I have all of the confidence in the world that CTS is the place to help me walk again, to help me live again as I want to live.
If you need help, with most any aspect of getting healthier and stronger, go to CTS.
P.S. - I feel so strongly about CTS that I changed my insurance just so I could go there more easily and more often. -Jan S.
Before coming to CTS I was in pain all the time! Since then I have been learning how to aleviate the pain through excercising and stretching; knowing why I have the pain and validating how I feel is huge. I'm mostly pain free but I know it is chronic and I've had it all my life so it will take time and patience. Thank you CTS for all you do! I feel so much better and look forward to my PT visit. -Anonymous
I have had a chronic pelvic floor problem for many years. Before Cindy, noone could bring me relief for more than a few hours or days. CTS has given me repeated, extended periods where the problem has gone into remission - something I couldn't even hope for before. Not only does Cindy provide such valuable help with my physical issue, but she is so emotionally supportive, always having an answer or suggestion for what might help, even when noone else has been able to help. -Anonymous
Stretching, check. Laying on my brick, check. Taking a walk, check. A trip to the mall, check. Grocery Store, check. You giving me my life back, check, check and triple check.
Love Ya. - Mkit
After going around for a year and a half with a nasty "ache" in my lower body and back, I finally ended up by Dr. Emily Lukacz at the UCSD medical group. This was a suggestion of my gynecologist Dr. Perri Wittgrove. During the visit to Dr. Lukacz, I had an intense bladder exam and she made the decision for me to go to Comprehensive Therapy Services for physical therapy for about 12 sessions.
I was introduced to Jill Menefee, who started treating me with her specialty of therapy. In the following sessions I was treated by both Jill and Natasha Ratajczak and started getting better by the week. The massage sessions were intense and professional.
After 10 of the 12 weeks had passed, I was released by Jill, since my progress was phenomenal. Then I made my last visit to Dr. Lukacz, who was delightfully impressed with my success. As a matter of fact, I felt so good during these times of treatment, that I dared myself to go skydiving at 12.500 feet with a 4000 free fall. I came back to earth with no problem at all, but I could have never have done this fete before treatment.
Oh, by the way, in a few weeks I will be 80-years old!!
I have been very thankful with the doctors who cared for me and for my PT program by Comprehensive Therapy Services, where everyone in the facility was utmost friendly and cooperative. I hope I will not need them any more... but certainly like to share with you my great experience and healing. Your former patient - N.D.
Dear Cindy and Maureen.. I want to thank you for the excellent physical therapy and service I received at Comprehensive. It was a very pleasant environment and Maureen did an outstanding and heartfelt job "in & out!" I would highly recommend you to anyone, and I told Dr. Kinsella at Balboa the same. Very Sincerely, A.B.
I came in limping and left pain free-great and caring staff. Very professional. -G.M.
I just wanted to thank you all for your tremendous support and encouraging small talk. I came into your office practically crawling and after 10 weeks I was able to walk out of the front door, very satisfied with your service. Veronica, Rebecca and Krista made my exercise program enjoyable and at times entertaining. I can't give your staff enough praise. My highest recommendations to anyone in need of Physical Therapy. Thank you all for everything. -D.N.
When I first came to CTS I was in a state of panic. I didn't know what my body was going through and I was in severe pain. Through extensive physical (and emotional) therapy, the staff and I were able to diagnose my medical issues, work through the pain and continue therapy after my surgery. The services provided by CTS (all staff) helped me in pre and post operative recovery to the extent that there were absolutely zero complications with recovery! I recommend CTS to everyone I can! Without all of you I would be a medical mess! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! -A.B.
I had pelvic pain for 4 months and doctors were unable to help me. I was finally referred to PT but when I came I was so depressed and hopeless. After disappointment and constant pain for 4 months I believed nothing would work. Kim assured me and helped me to have hope. To my surprise, after the 1st session I dramatically improved. Now I have no pain and I know what to do if my pain ever comes back. -Anonymous
I first came to CTS not knowing what to expect. My pelvic pain wouldn't subside, no matter how many or what kind of pain killers I took. I had been with pain for over a year. The therapists really helped me understand why the pain was so intense. They helped me understand what my body needed. The exercises, the stretches really helped. They taught me to breathe again! Whenever I feel pain start up, I breathe deeply and the pain goes away almost immediately. I love this place! If I ever need any more physical therapy, this is the place for me! -Anonymous
I was helped greatly by CTS services and recommend them to anyone. -A.C.
My experience here was great. The therapists are very nice and understanding. If I didn't come to CTS I don't know if I would have gotten better. They take time to get to know you as a person not a chart or patient. The therapists become like friends and family who listen and are beside you every step of your healing process. -T.E.
Kim is great! So right on! My incontinence that led to my coming to CTS seems to be ...dissipating! Hooray! Between exercising and Glasel's Protocol, I'm getting better! THANKS CTS! You're the Best. -M.Z.
I run long distance and I had pulled my groin muscle and couldn't run ten feet. After a few weeks I was feeling much better and after a few more I was back running at 100%. The staff is great! Thanks CTS. -R.S.
